As I sit at my desk, my mind is filled with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming dinner that Heirloom Fire will be hosting at Brittingham Farms. Recently, I had the honor of spending a day with the owners of the farm, Laura and Jon. They welcomed me with open arms and showed me the true essence of Delaware's hospitality and community.
Now that I am back in the Berkshires, my mind is buzzing with ideas for the upcoming dinner. The beautiful lavender fields that will serve as the dining room for the event have been etched into my mind, and I am eager to create an unforgettable dining experience for all who attend.
The dinner menu will feature open fire cooked lamb from the farm, local produce, oysters, and fish. The farm's heritage breed Leicester sheep, which were originally smuggled into the United States from England by none other than George Washington, will take center stage on the menu. This heritage breed sheep is prized for their wool as well as their densely marbled meat.
Brittingham Farms holds the aspiration of becoming a wedding venue, and I am honored that Heirloom Fire has been asked to contribute to their journey. Brittingham Farms has been in Jon's Family for many, many years and opening their space to others not only allows the guests to also enjoy the Brittingham's home as they do, but breathe fresh life into the land for the next generation. It is our hope that this dinner will not only showcase the best of what they have to offer but will also introduce us to the potential of future collaborations.
As guests make their way through the evening, they will have the opportunity to taste local wines from the Salted Vines Winery, as well as a wine made from the farm's own lavender. The dinner will be four courses in total, each carefully crafted to showcase the unique flavors and ingredients of the region. It is always an honor to be able to showcase the best of what a community has to offer, and I truly believe that this is going to be an unforgettable experience for all involved. We will be opening ticket sales very soon. If you are not signed up to the email newsletter, now is the time to be the first to know. We will see you there!
